How many times have you felt the afternoon slump, and grabbed some chocolate or a store bought muffin only to come crashing down 30 minutes later?
Why are you choosing to snack?
Snacks can be tricky as many of us use them to fill other voids such as boredom or anxiousness. First and foremost, the question should be “am I really even hungry?” If the answer is “No, not really…” consider exploring what you are feeling. Bored? Take a walk. Lonely? Call or go visit a friend. Anxious? Try doing some breath work.
Smart snacking…. it’s a thing
Living a healthy and fulfilling life is all about making smart choices, and snacking is one area where you can easily make a positive change! Think about it, if we opted for small food breaks that were meant to give us energy and keep us satisfied until we ate again it would be perfect.
Unfortunately, snacks have become an opportunity for food companies to capitalize on our weakest points. Their cleverly researched marketing tactics have the ability to fill our thoughts with the next sweet treat. Rise above- By choosing healthy snacks, you are choosing to provide your body with the nutrients it needs to stay energized and focused throughout the day. This in turn will help you take on whatever the day throws your way with ease, not add to it.
Here are some some fun “smart snack” ideas that won’t break the bank or your pants:
- Veggies and hummus / Babaganoush
- **Smoothies (Or Homemade smoothie popsicles)- See below for my favorite Green Smoothie formula for 3-4 servings
- Raw nuts with dry fruit
- Nut butter and fresh fruit wraps
- Popcorn ( One of my all time fav’s) Spice it with garlic and dill, or nutritional yeast, or some lime and chili (It’s high in fiber and protein)
- Kale/ Brussel Sprouts chips
- Baked tortilla and salsa
- Homemade bran muffins
- Energy bites
Making healthy snacking choices is easier than you might think, and with these tasty options at your fingertips, you can snack your way to feeling great and living your best life – no strings attached 😉
